“Upon Changes”

by John Dorroh

The cats are doing their bizness
in hi-tech, minimal-carbon footprint
coconut, shredded so fine that it floats
in the air. The biodegradable bag in which
it is shipped pulls more weight than
the litter.

Cats are supposed to be picky. Change
their food and you might find evidence
of malcontent. Like people. Force them
to swap cash for plastic cards and they
lose control, like leaky bladders.

Change makes me question motives
some times. But at least I am no longer
looking for a phone booth when I need
to call my supervisor to tell her that I
won’t be coming in until after 10.
